Hot peppers are at the pinnacle of plant evolution. Stay-at-home mammals don't care to eat hot peppers, but birds don't taste the hotness so they spread pepper seeds far and wide. Meanwhile, we bird-brained humans enjoy food that hurts, so we cultivate more pepper plants. What perfect adaption! It sure beats having a brain.
