Another thing about a John Sladek chapter is that it improves when you read the next chapter and see what it was setting up. That reminds me of the two chapters in the Old Testament which mention Jacob (no relation) wrestling with the angel. What's the lesson we're supposed to draw here? God is so wimpy that He has to cheat? I like that interpretation. I can see myself in the role of God as I wrestle with earthly questions like "When does this stream of consciousness run out of hoot?"
How about a nice, refreshing epigram tomorrow?
