Wimpy American fundamentalists prefer Christianity over evolution. Big deal--most people prefer Britney Spears over any of that science spilth. Compare the Afghan Taliban: They prefer Islam over food or even illegal drugs. That's fanaticism as God intended.
I'm tempted to suggest crusades all around--let the extremists deal with each other. But I'm worried that one of the sides might win.
