The characters we invent, from cartoon germs to ineffable God, are anthropomorphic--as is suitable for the species at the center of the universe. But have you met Kyoko Date? We have begun to move up the theo-evolutionary ladder, not merely inventing but creating our characters. And I'm afraid of boredom. As we garden the universe, who will bring the apple?
