In bad times, a congressional hearing is a dog-and-pony show in which the dogs and ponies are whipped. Is Congress somehow trying to score political points over mistakes which are detectable only with hindsight? Or do they do it for the fun of berating people smarter than they are? Well, whatever; in the future Congress will easily avoid the old mistakes, now that they know better than to listen to smart people.
