7 January 2014 - dicynodont

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Is a dicynodont two cynodonts sewn together? What about a triconodont? I have to wonder about the early evolution of mammals—Piltdown Man is a mammal too.

clue:

cynodont - a group starting with “mammal-like reptiles” and including modern mammals
dicynodont - another group of “mammal-like reptiles” with an earlier start
conodont - extinct eel-like animals first known from their teeth
triconodont - a group of early mammals
Piltdown Man - a hoax fossil made of bones from different species

give me a clue so sweet and true
