In the Daily Whale tradition of offering simple, effective, fair solutions that will be understood as a joke, I propose a constitutional amendment to require police departments to pay for the property damage they cause in executing a search warrant, whether they find anything or not. Paying for all the flowers they crush, doors they smash, and dogs they shoot will quickly run down the police budget and we’ll all be safer.
