16 September 2014 - self-correcting income gap

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

I changed my mind. There’s nothing wrong with a huge income gap. You see, if you have a growing gap then the lower 90% of the income distribution overborrows to maintain its standard of living. That eventually brings a financial crisis, which causes political instability and extremism, which means an ever-increasing risk of war. And war wipes out the rich and restores equality. Problems are impossible, it’s self-correcting!

clue:

Keynes figured out the key overborrowing and crisis bit. Then we forgot. Thomas Piketty is good on war restoring equality (which doesn’t happen exactly by wiping out the rich).

take oh take this clue away
