Intellectual laziness allowed WWI. “No worry, we got it figured.” Moral cowardice allowed WWII. “Oh god, this is unbearable. I’ll close my eyes and hope it goes away.” But ever since them damn Russkis got the Bomb, there has been no room for character faults. Every war must be pushed off the escalator before it goes MAD. “Good thing we’re smart now.”
