Each human divides the human world into an ingroup that matters and an outgroup that may perhaps be due a certain kind of attention. When blazing civil war devastates an outgroup—well, as long as they stay out. When a few sparks drift across and burn tiny spots of the ingroup, the alarm shrills. You need to know these things to understand human behavior. I still can’t figure out why those humans think so highly of humanism.
