In the U.S., lawyers are legally liable for any mistakes they make in legal advice they give to people other than their clients. That makes legal advice harder to get, which drives up its price, which makes lawyers richer.

It’s a clever trick worked out by politicans, who are, after all, largely ex-lawyers. Never say politicians don’t understand economics.
