Actually, there’s a good reason for science to have greater prestige than technology.

Consider: If you advance science, you are a scientist. If you advance technology, you may be an inventor, but more likely you’re just an engineer or a technician or whatever. Advancing technology is not so much a goal as an expected side effect of doing your job. Technology is a natural sphere of human activity; it just happens; but science is unnatural and needs social props to stay up.

Humans are so dumb that we have to act dumber to stay smart.
