We have to decide, as a society, whether copyright is worthwhile. Should we be
oppressive and regressive, and maintain monopolistic copyrights, or should we
all live off our MacArthur awards like Richard Stallman?

Richard Stallman believes that software should free for all to copy,
and works hard for his point of view. He went so far as to found the
Free Software Foundation. He became a MacArthur Fellow in 1990.
