6 May 1998 - Van Gogh

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

It’s always been obvious that Vincent Van Gogh was out of his mind, but I’ve finally discovered hard proof.

“In a picture I want to say something comforting.” — Van Gogh

clue:

He wrote that to his brother in letter 531. Be glad you aren’t a scholarly editor, driven beyond reason to number every letter.

If any of you finds Van Gogh’s “Room at Arles” comforting, I hope you’ll feel free to keep it to yourself.

give me a clue so sweet and true
