29 August 1998 - blowing things up

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

I’ve been ridiculing brutal despots and vicious terrorists, but let’s not go overboard here. These otherwise distasteful gentlemen have an important lesson to teach the democratic Western societies, and we’d better pay attention if we want to maintain our standard of living and keep our toy companies in the first rank.

The lesson is this: blowing things up is fun. Barbie has her place, but mayhem and destruction can’t be underestimated for sheer entertainment power.
