13 April 1999 - Serbia: empty words

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Pavle Bulatovic rehearses journalists of the government-controlled media:

“Once again the NATO aggressor’s planes insanely attacked. Everybody knows the script, right? Brave antiaircraft units forced them to flee, same as always. I’ll hand around the target list. We’re saying, uh, two criminal planes and four fascist missiles shot down. No, no, Miroslav, there’s no need to change anything. Saddam Hussein taught us that this story will work for many years. Repetition strengthens it. Now, this time I want everyone in exact unison. Rastomir, start the metronome. Pitch, please. One, two, three, four, ‘Once again the NATO aggressor’s planes insanely attacked....’”

Pavle Bulatovic is Belgrade’s Minister of Defense.
