4 March 2007 - breadth of appeal

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Art varies in its breadth of appeal. At one end of the spectrum lies the banana peel of popular culture; most people slip on it. At the opposite reposes the urbane but insouciant lemon peel, sour but profoundly satisfying to the sophisticated palate with its years of specialized indoctrination. At last I know how to bring both ends together into the yellow light of day, for there is one object which is loved by all yet deeply familiar: The subject. Friends, today I bring to you the benefits of the art of self-appreciation.
