If evolution works, then the human brain must be full throughout adult life; otherwise the brain is unnecessarily expensive. Thus you forget at the same rate that you learn. If, as you grow older, you gain a broader and more abstract view of the world, you compensate by forgetting your anniversary. That’s the true reason that immortality is useless: Eventually you’ll attain enlightenment and forget your name.
