13 October 2007 - CIA Inspector General
< yesterday --
tomorrow >
Reporter: The CIA is investigating its own Inspector
General’s office.
CIA Spokesspook: That’s correct. Concerns have been
raised about whether the watchdog has contracted rabies.
Reporter: Is this an attempt to undermine the
independence of the CIA Inspector General?
Spokesspook: Exactly the opposite. It’s really an
attempt to help the I.G. to further improve his work.
Reporter: What aspects might need improvement?
Spokesspook: It’s a question of accountability. Who’s
watching the watchers watching the watchers watching the... uh,
I lost count. Accountability must be accurately targeted
so that we can get away with what we need to.
Reporter: What will you do if you find problems? Go
through channels to the Council on Integrity and Efficiency?
Spokesspook: That is yet to be decided, but the CIA
is a covert organization with the capability for direct action.
Reporter: So, er....
Spokesspook: Yes, we’ll treat them exactly like
Englishmen. Remember the Revolution?
