Eugenics is, of course, famously cruel. But with genetic engineering coming into view, we can improve our genes without resort to old-fashioned selective breeding. As genetic diseases are defeated one by one, opposing attitudes will gradually change. So let’s take a poll: How many decades before embryo screening is required by law? Two, or three?
