Putting Corporate Governance to Work

Being on the board of managers is a cushy job. The main duties are to show up at a fancy room a few days a year to shmooze with your rich buddies, and to rubber-stamp whatever the CEO hands you—and don’t worry, there’s no need to personally handle the stamp. The job pays well by everyday standards, but it’s only open to people who see the compensation as insignificant. But with unemployment so high, doesn’t another idea suggest itself? Do you really believe that random poor people would do a worse job?
