Suppose you had just invented wine. Would you ever ever ever get regulatory approval to sell it? A drink fermented by microorganisms and full of nobody knows what complex organics? It’s hard enough to approve a simple transgenic crop which is the same old thing except for a few fiddled genes. Moral: Be sure to have all your best ideas before bureaucracy is invented.
