13 March 2013 - FATCAT 1

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

The most direct way to reduce the gap between rich and poor is a wealth tax, but critics complain that wealth taxes are expensive to administer. But companies growing too rich are also a social problem, and our main defense is complex and arbitrary antitrust action. A progressive corporate asset tax would encourage spinoffs and offer monopolies a headwind to fight against, so today I propose the Fair And Transparent Corporate Asset Tax (FATCAT).

clue:

Corporate asset taxes exist in some countries, but most of them seem to be minimum taxes: If the corporate income tax is too low, the asset tax sets a floor under it.
