23 May 2013 - free press
< yesterday --
tomorrow >
Two key principles of the free press balance competing interests. First,
on the government side, people with power can leak. If you’re an
underling, be prepared for prison torture like Bradley Manning. Second,
on the press side, you’re free to report good news, but make sure you
come honestly by any bad news or you’ll be called a criminal like James
Rosen and your phones will be tapped. Isn’t that fair?
clue:
The Obama administration is working so hard to suppress bad news that
it becomes bad news in itself. And the legal tactics are over the top.
