Millions of years from now, when the aliens land in our overgrown cities, the clean and nonviolent nature of our demise will allow them to slowly piece together what must have happened. Paper and computer storage will be long since unreadable, but they will understand how we reverenced information. They will discern in the fossil record how we regulated ourselves ever more thoroughly and less flexibly, and will conclude following anthropological tradition that here was a people who perished in a great catechism.
