If you’re a highly advanced civilization, the universe is a bleak place. Cosmic expansion puts a limit on the resources you can collect, and therefore on what you can accomplish. The acceleration of the expansion means the limit grows smaller ever more rapidly. Then the universe runs down and you slowly die. Being an advanced civilization is like being a human, except you don’t get a posterity. Y’know what, let’s go back to the Stone Age when life was interesting.
