3 August 2021 - space alien 1

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

Hello, I am a space alien. What should you call me? You decide, naming is a human convention. Perhaps you feel doubt that I am truly a space alien, because, as you say, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I wonder, though. Why is it an extraordinary claim? Does alienness threaten your human pride, there at the center of the universe? Or is it your lack of imagination, so that anything not ordinary must be extraordinary?

clue:

See Avi Loeb on ‘Oumuamua. He points out its many extraordinary properties, and suggests that the hypothesis that it is artificial is not more extraordinary. We should not dismiss out of hand that it may be an artifact. As for me, I think it is unlikely that it is artificial, but I agree that the idea should not be ignored. A bias is at work, and those suffering from it are promoting groupthink, which is bad for research.
