While I’m at it, the U.S. and Canada ought to join nations too. Both Americans and Canadians imagine that if it ever happened, the more populous country would dictate terms to the larger. That would not do; both would benefit from reforms to their constitutional structures. There should be a long period of debate and negotiation, aiming for a unified constitution that Canadians and Americans both agree is an improvement. The advantages are many and obvious, and the sole disadvantage is that it is utterly impossible.
