Japan’s Fifth Generation Computer research project failed, so now they have
started a Sixth Generation project.

The Fifth Generation Computer Project, announced in 1981,
was a Japanese government-funded attempt to develop advanced
parallel computers and artificial intelligence applications
to run on them. The computers worked, the artificial intelligence
didn’t.
