12 May 2006 - phone records
< yesterday --
tomorrow >
reporter: USA Today reports that the government is
collecting records of most of the phone calls made in the
nation.
Bush: We are not trolling through the personal lives
of millions of innocent Americans.
reporter: Isn’t that exactly what you’re doing?
Bush: You are all guilty. If you were innocent, you’d be
using secure U.S. Government phones.
reporter: Now we’re getting somewhere!
Bush: The privacy of ordinary Americans is fiercely protected.
reporter: Which word are you redefining here? “Privacy”?
“ordinary”?
Bush: Careful, or I’ll tell your wife who you’ve been
calling. Anyway, my administration does not leak information.
clue:
I used quotes from Bush’s actual speech on the topic.
