12 October 2008 - glass bridges
< yesterday --
tomorrow >
In the imaginary world inhabited by humans, bridges are made
of glass, and though the equations of rational decision-making
say that we shouldn’t, we take account of the water that has
passed under them. Even those who know better than to panic
are looking at the water below their feet and trying to judge
sensitively when the panic is over, to make the greatest
possible profit—using the irrational to attempt the impossible.
Meanwhile, in my imaginary world, where I’m rational, I should
be getting rich any day now.
clue:
I moved money into stocks this week. Anyone with a good
long-term investment plan that includes U.S. or European stocks
should be considering that too, to rebalance their portfolio.
give me a clue so sweet and true
