18 January 2018 - Ben Franklin 2

< yesterday -- tomorrow >

When Benjamin Franklin arrives from the 18th century, what should I do with him? Visit the airport? Show him the computer? I think I will take a walk with him to the supermarket. On the way, we could talk about cars and building materials and the social changes wrought by the Industrial Revolution. Every time that he wonders about some technology, I will explain that it works by electricity and that the details are complicated. When we arrive he will marvel at the vast variety of foods, and later when we make a dinner of some of them he will marvel again at their blandness. He will return understanding the importance of electricity and staying colorful.
