Science Wants to Confuse You

OK, virus is named SARS-CoV-2 and the disease is named COVID-19, but what is the name of the mistake of giving names like this?

clue:

The virus that causes measles is normally called “measles virus”. Is that not good enough? These are “yo, give me prestige” names, not names for use. Scientific culture is foolish to let the social status of a name override its usability, it actively causes confusion and harm.

But don’t say “naming”, say “nomenclature” or nobody will listen.

take oh take this clue away
